Our Mission.

The mission for SAIL TO WIN is to honor and empower wounded veterans, first responders, and people that have served their community with disabilities by training, educating, and competing in sailing competitions around the globe.  We bring adaptive and able-bodied athletes together, conduct training events, and facilitate opportunities for technology experts to assist service members with solutions that will help them become highly competitive in sailing and increase their everyday quality of life.

  • Fouding Members

Whitney Curtin is a professional sailor. Aaron Ike Isaacson is a U.S. Army combat veteran of Iraq & Afghanistan with sailing experience. Mike Patterson is a life-long sailing and boating expert. Each member of the team has sailed in different locations around the globe over the last 15-plus years. They are passionate about using their experience to bring wounded and injured service members from all walks of life into the sport of competitive sailing.

  • Current Project

SAIL TO WIN is currently working with the blind U.S. Army veteran Steven Baskis as they prepare to compete in the Transatlantic Race from Manhattan, NY to Cowes, UK.

New challenges bring new innovation. We are working to build new technology that will assist blind sailors in their future endeavors.

Our goal is to break multiple blind sailing records.

  • Transatlantic Race

The Transatlantic Race is the oldest offshore sailing race that is still in existence. It is the world’s most respected and most challenging of the oceanic races. The original race began in 1866 just after the Civil War. The 3 boat fleet departed from Manhattan, New York, and finished in the UK. This will be nearly a 3,000 nautical mile trek for the Sail To Win team.

  • Wounded and Injured Service Members.

Sail To Win is focused on introducing and educating wounded / injured service members to the sport of competitive sailing. Some injuries are seen and many are not. There are mental hurdles that also get in the way of experiencing life to the fullest. If anyone has dedicated time towards serving their fellow country and community, we want to show you the wonderful sport of sailing.

  • Newport, Rhode Island.

Sail to Win has chosen the wonderful city of Newport, RI as its home. Newport has a rich history of sailing dating back to the year 1639. We look forward to continuing the sailing tradition and adding more sailors to the sport.

  • Help Those that Serve.

We need your help to keep this project sailing forward. Please reach out to us for equipment donations and funding opportunities.

    Thank you.
